In Part I of School: The Story of American Public Education, we see how early leaders like Horace Mann and Noah Webster helped create the school system by focusing on education to grow informed citizens. Differences in quality and access have led to ongoing unfairness. Today, it's important to talk about how to balance teamwork and individual work in American schools.
